TICRA Foundation and AMTA offer three (3) travel grants for AMTA 2024

Greetings,

As previously announced, the TICRA Foundation and AMTA have introduced a new travel grant opportunity for AMTA 2024 in addition to the Eric Walton Travel Scholarship.  Details can be found on the AMTA 2024 website (links: The TICRA Grants and The Eric Walton Travel Scholarship).  Note that the Eric Walton Travel Scholarship is for students only (undergraduate to 1st year PhD students) whereas the TICRA grant is open to any author of an accepted AMTA 2024 paper regardless of student status.

Unfortunately, the discrepancy in due dates for the two opportunities has caused some confusion. To give a fair opportunity for those students who have not submitted their Eric Walton Travel Scholarship application because of this difference, we have extended the submission deadline for undergraduates and masters degree candidates to 27 August 2024. This brings the due dates of both programs into alignment.

The Eric Walton Student Travel Award is designed to encourage students interested in electromagnetics with an emphasis on antennas. It is open world-wide to undergraduate juniors and seniors as well as Masters and first year PhD students.

Students must show a demonstrated interest in electromagnetics and/or antennas and be able to attend the upcoming symposium. Award winners will receive travel funding up to $2,000 USD to attend the symposium as well as many other benefits.

Application requirements
In order to apply, students must submit:

• An essay about his/her interest in AMTA, antennas, radar, or/and electromagnetic related field, giving background and plans for the future
• A resume which includes course listings with grades received
• A letter of recommendation from the student’s advisor or faculty member, or an AMTA Senior Member or Fellow who is not a sitting Board Member, or a member of the scholarship selection committee

Application deadline
Please submit your essay, resume, course listing with grades, and recommendation letter to scholarship@amta.org with “Eric Walton Travel Scholarship” in the subject line no later than August 27, 2024.

Successful candidates will be notified by September 17, 2024

Each grant consists of $1,000 for travel and subsistence. The grants will be announced during the AMTA Awards Ceremony and conference dinner on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

The awardees will be selected based on the author’s potential or demonstrated aptitude for research and their financial situation. Applicants from all regions and career stages are encouraged to apply with some preference given to applicants early in their careers. Only authors of accepted AMTA 2024 papers will be considered.

Application requirements
To be considered for the travel grants, applicants are required to provide the following:

• Motivational letter (max. ½ page)
• Brief resumé (max. 2 pages)
• Full conference paper
• Paper ID

The grants will be transferred to each awardee after the conclusion of the conference, conditional on the awardee’s participation in the conference.

Application deadline
Please submit your motivational letter, resumé, conference paper, and a copy of the conference paper acceptance to amta@ticra.com with “Travel grant” and a clear statement of your paper ID from AMTA in the subject line no later than August 27, 2024

Successful candidates will be notified by September 17, 2024

A committee at TICRA and AMTA will make the selection of the recipients of the grants.
