President's Report

Greetings! I trust our AMTA community is enjoying an exciting and fruitful year. As you will find in perusing our board member reports, AMTA continues to thrive as we march toward our signature event, the AMTA Annual Meeting and Symposium. Our numbers are strong, with a current membership of 488 representing 23 countries. This includes the addition of 35 first time memberships since the beginning of the calendar year! Looking toward our 37th Annual Symposium we anticipate reaching a new record based on projected registrations. These numbers are a sign of a healthy and growing organization that is meeting the needs of its members.

Vice President's Report

At last year’s conference, we introduce the concept of AMTA nodes. A node is a local AMTA chapter intended to provide a means within a small regional area to meet and share information. The nodes are operating with the AMTA organization and receive seed money and support. To date, we have a total of 3 nodes: The Rocky Mountain Node in Boulder, CO; The Gateway Node in St. Louis, MO; and our latest addition being in Italy. If you are interested in forming a node, or would like more information regarding existing nodes, please contact the AMTA Vice President.

Meeting Coordinator's Report

Hello Fellow AMTA Members, We are gearing up now for another great AMTA Symposium in beautiful Long Beach, CA, and I look forward to seeing you all there! Time has flown since our last AMTA in Tucson, which offered equally beautiful, but very different surroundings. Instead of bumping into the unfriendly, prickly Cacti, we can expect to be rubbing elbows with the friendly, sun-tanned Californians. Oh, but of course, that’s not why we come to AMTA, is it? No, we all know that’s for the food, err, excuse me, I mean the great Technical Sessions, of course! And we once again have a full slate of those to look forward to, and a great venue to host them in the Hyatt Regency Long Beach.

Technical Coordinator's Report

Our AMTA 2015 authors have been quite busy getting their papers written, approved, and submitted for the conference. The technical program this year is shaping up to be another valuable opportunity to learn about advances in measurement techniques as well as relevant research and recent experiences of experts in the industry. A total of 98 papers are scheduled to be presented in 2 Poster Sessions and 14 Oral Presentation Sessions. I look forward to meeting each of you in Long Beach!.

Senior Advisor Report

The IEEE AP-S, AMTA and EurAAP continue their collaboration on a revision to IEEE Standard 149-1979: Standard test Procedures for Antennas. This standard was last revised in 1979 and is considerably out of date. Both compact ranges and near-field ranges were in their infancy when the standard was last revised; the last revision has only a few paragraphs on each of these topics.Hence, the reason for this much needed update. A working group (chaired by Jeff Fordham and co-chaired by Lars Foged) has been established to revise this standard.

European Liaison Report

Lisbon hosted the 9th edition of the EuCAP (European Conference in Antennas and Propagation) from April 12th to April 17th 2015. In the same way it was done in previous editions, AMTA supported this conference, contributing with sessions, invited speakers, technical tour, scientific AMTA Workshop and a large participation of Antenna Measurement companies in the exhibition. University of Salerno hosted the first workshop of the AMTA Italian node. During one day, the most relevant Italian researchers in Antenna Measurement discussed about the new trends in this area. AMTA Europe 2016 will be hosted in Davos (during EuCAP 10-15 April). Call for papers is now open until mid-October”.

AMTA 2015 Regional Event - Boulder, CO

The AMTA Boulder Node, together with the local IEEE Joint Antennas and Propagation/Microwave Theory and Techniques Chapter as well as the EMC Chapter, supported a one-day colloquium and exhibition with the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) in Boulder, Colorado on April 28, 2015. The activity began on Monday afternoon, April 27, with a tour of the antenna measurement, wireless and EMC test facilities at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder. The VIP tour included the extrapolation range, robot range, and one of the reverberation chambers at NIST. The tour attendees appreciated the expert commentary provided by Chris Holloway, Jeff Guerrieri, David Novotny and Mike Francis. This NIST team provided a fascinating look at the impressive R&D underway at their facility. The regional event then kicked off the morning of Tuesday, April 28. Held at the Millennium Harvest House Hotel in Boulder, Colorado, the technical program addressed “Recent Advances in Antenna Measurement Post-Processing.” The program was designed to bring the latest technology related to EMC and antenna measurement techniques to the local community. Experts in industry, academia and government organizations shared practical information on various topics in an extended presentation format.
